Who we are?
The Association of Environmentally-Educational Organisations Špirála is a state-wide network of organisations pursuing with environmental education and training. Špirála is a non-governmental, non-profitable organisation, founded as an interest society of legal entities. Špirála was established in July 2001.
The precondition of membership is the opening up of environmental educational programmes and projects to the extent a minimum of 200 hours per year. The programmes must fulfil the Criteria of Environmental Educational Program accredited by the Board of Directors.
- EEP uses mainly interactive and activate methods, which arouse pupils and students environmental thinking, non-consuming lifestyle and responsibility for the state of the environment.
- EEP minimizes so-called frontal schooling /lecture, interpretation/. EEP uses for instance elements of global, project and problem teaching. EEP contains chemical experiments as well as dramatic education.
- EEP contains always current and expert-objective information with the emphasis on ideas of sustainable life. EEP endeavours to offer to pupils and students the widest spectrum of information about given problem and leads a child to create its own opinion about given problems
- EEP endeavours to use original didactic aids – for instance demonstration of alternative energy sources, products of nature...
- A content of EEP comes out, fills in and spreads curriculum of single school grades.
- By EEP is the accent put on education leading to free, creative and critical thinking.
Špirála currently has four members: Centrum environmentálnych aktivít, Centrum environmentálnej a etickej výchovy Živica, Klub Kon-Tiky, Sosna - centrum trvalo udržateľných alternatív.
Spirala is an associated member of The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and implements two of its educational programmes, the Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for Environment.
Our mission and aims
The Association of Environmentally-Educational Organisations Špirála activities are:
- To represent and promote the interests of its members in relation to the state administration authorities, partnership organisations, foundations, sponsors and donators
- To support mutual exchange of experiences among its members in the field of environmental education
- To provide a platform for spreading current information among its members as well as opening up information to the general public
- To pay attention to the quality of educational programmes of its members and helps to improve the quality of their activities.
- to implement FEE educational programmes and ensure their international standards
To fulfil the above-mentioned aims of Špirála in particular we would like to:
- Provide advisory and consultation activities in the field of environmental education, training and enlightenment and also in the field of management of the non-governmental organisations
- Organise educational projects, courses and excursions
- Provide promotional actions, promotion of members, publishes the information by means of non-periodical and periodical publications
- Process and realise projects for the support of environmental education, training and enlightenment
- Actively participate in the preparation of relevant legislative laws related with the subject of the society’s activity.
